Is It Effective?
In a 2009 Viveve study, women who reported a decrease in sexual satisfaction following vaginal deliveries and had undergone the Viveve Treatment reported:
- Improved sexual satisfaction at 30 days and 6 months (Fig. 1)
- Significant decrease in sexual distress related to their sexual activity
- 87% of the women who underwent treatment reported an increase in vaginal tightness at 6 months (Fig. 2)

Are There Risks?
Complications are typically mild, temporary, and resolve shortly after treatment. Reported complications and side effects include: slight, white vaginal discharge; redness or swelling; slight abdominal discomfort, focal, transient altered sensation and tingling following treatment. In rare cases, a Viveve patient could develop an infection requiring antibiotics. Although no permanent complications have been reported, there is a remote possibility of damage to the urethra or rectum. The long-term effects of the Viveve procedure are not known.
